Silk Screen

This is my silk screen image. I took this photo in Toronto, I was walking down Queen Street when I noticed this great looking character. I snapped a close of picture of his face. I made a 8/10 silk screen and printed it onto my sketchbook. I think this turned out really well and am very happy with the outcome. If I was to do one thing different in the future I would make sure I spread the emulsion over the screen more evenly. I did not take enough emulsion off and therefor I was left with droplets of thick emulsion on the screen when it dried. Overall I am very happy with the way my silk screen turned out and I am looking forward to doing this process in the near future.

Acrylic Lift

This is my acrylic lift. It consists of 12 layers, and a picture which breaks the rules. From my previous post I disused three pictures I took which broke the rules, this is one of those photographs. This acrylic lift took me 2 days to coat, and then another two days to wash away all the existing paper. I think it turned out really well, yet in the future I would do more layers as this one seemed to be slightly thin. My layers were thin and even opposed to few and thick. I really liked this medium, I think its a really cool way to incorporate pictures into a physical object. I think its really interesting how a picture can be turned into something similar to that of fabric. In the future I would use more layers to make a thicker acrylic lift.

Breaking The Rules

This picture is breaking the rules because of all the mergers that are crossing through the mans head and body. His lower legs from the knees down are also cut off by the framing of the picture, which leaves to much space above his head. The man is positioned in the middle of the frame which is breaking the rule of thirds and throws off the balance of the photograph. The overall composition of this photo is incorrect and is breaking many rules of photography. I think that even though this picture is breaking all of these rules, there is still an aspect of it that works and looks good.

This is a picture I took in Nathan Philips Square, which is a skating rink in downtown Toronto. I crept up behind the man and snapped a picture of him while he was stepping onto the ice. This picture is breaking the rules because it also have mergers that are protruding from the mans head and chest. In this photo the man is positioned in the middle of the frame which is breaking the rule of thirds. I do like the contrast of this photo, but if I was to improve it I would like to fill the frame more with his body and leave less negative space around his body.
This is a picture I took of a little lady in "graffiti ally". I took it from behind her while she was working on some product for her store front. This picture is breaking the rules because yet again she has many mergers coming from her body. In order to avoid this in the future i should make my aperture something like 1.8 or 2.8 so the backgrounds will be blown out and blurred. This pictures framing is also placed in the middle making the composition incorrect.

I took all three of these pictures with my Nikon D7000 and a 50, 1.8. I think that overall they break the rules yet there is something that is very cool about each photo and I like the fact that each of these photos consist of a story and a character. I think that in order for a photo to connect with the viewer, the photograph should tell a story making the viewer think about what it means.

Sam In Renaissance

For this picture I used my Nikon D7000, a 50mm 1.8 and my setting were, ISO 400, 1/150, f1.8. When I took this picture I wanted the lighting to be identical to the original, looking at the original i found that most of the light was coming from a source on the from the right of the subject. So I placed my brightest light to the right of my subject.

This particular picture was form the 1400's and I thought it was a fun picture to use. At first glance you may think this is a female but its actually a man with very long hair, I thought this was funny and entertaining as I used Sam for my subject.

I think that i was successful in creating a portrait that was very similar to the original. I had difficulties using Photoshop as I have minimal experience with using it.

Combining light.

This is a picture that i took of my friend Max in a stairwell.  For this photo there was a sufficient amount of natural like coming in from behind the subject and I also used one off camera flash as a fill light to light up the subjects face. For this photo I used my Nikon D7000 and my 18-105mm 3.5 - 5.6 lens, the setting on the camera were ISO 800, 18mm, 1/180 at f3.5.

One thing I like about this photo is the red stairs, I find that they give the picture a nice warm feeling and bring out the red in the subjects lips. I like the stairs for the fact that the lines provided, draw your attention inwards toward the subject. The stairs allow the subject to stand out from the rest of the picture.

One thing that I could have improved on would be avoiding the slight shadow in the background. Otherwise I think this was a successful picture and was a good use of combing natural and unnatural light.

My name in disguise.

This is my name, this is my name constructed of different objects and formations in nature and abroad. "Ben Ehrensperger"

I found it much harder than expected to find the letters, i found particular letters much easier to find than others, such as the letters "e" and "n." In order to find the letter i had to had to have a new outlook on nature and the surrounding environment. I had to pay attention to detail and be creative in my decisions in order for my name to be accurate.

I found this assignment more difficult then expected, but its was really fun.

I  also had difficulties with uploading and editing my pictures because i shot them in RAW, i soon sorted out the issues and was successful in completing the assignment....very last minute.

Chase Jarvis, Photography.

I like this picture because of the composition and how it interacts with the motion of the man jumping through the air. I like how all the detail is really pronounced and colorful. I really like this picture and "wish" i was the photographer who took it.
